Tenant Program

NHN's Tenant Program provides assistance to Brooklyn tenants through two initiatives: Tenant Counseling and Tenant Organizing.

Tenant Counseling

We have a team of counselors dedicated to assisting tenants on housing issues. We help tenants:

Understand their rights
Complete leases and other housing documents
Resolve landlord-tenant disputes
Go to Housing Court
Get repairs made in their apartments
Apply for housing programs, including:

SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption)
DRIE (Disability Rent Increase Exemption)
HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program)
Public Housing
Senior Housing

Appointments:
If you live in Sunset Park or surrounding neighborhoods and you want to meet with a tenant counselor, please call us at 718-686-7946 to make an appointment. If you live in another neighborhood we will be happy to recommend a local organization that can help.

Workshops:
NHN can make a presentation about tenants rights to your group, such as a tenant association, parent association, congregation, etc., in English or Spanish. To schedule a presentation, please call us.

Tenant Organizing
Do you and your neighbors have repair issues? Face harassment or other problems with your landlord?

Do you live in a rent-stabilized building? (Usually, a building is rent stabilized if it has 6 or more apartments)

Are you in the neighborhood of Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Kensington, or Borough Park?

If so, call us! Our organizers, Nico, Taylor and Dagan are able to work with your building to create an action plan, nominate tenant leaders, and hold your landlord accountable. We can be contacted at 718-686-7946.
